First Thursday Reception @ 77 Salon

I am delighted to share with you my latest #inktober inspired works for my final show of 2016 at 77 Salon in NW Portland. Mark your calendars for First Thursday, November 3 from 7-9pm for the opening reception!

To celebrate the end of this incredible year, my dear friends Magnolia Bouvier and DDDJJJ666 will be slinging new wave/post punk for us to wiggle to and the salon will provide booze and light snacks!

All of my work is hot off the presses--an exciting departure from this year of satisfyingly time-consuming and intricate works, these fun drawings are all 8x10 inches, framed and ready to hang and will all be priced at $77 in honor of 77 Salon! Such a thrill to unleash myself in my art for a change.

Also exciting, the Outline Scarf from LUXE + LENS will be available for sale (you don't have to wait/pay for shipping!) and because Portland-based nonprofit Public Annex is in the midst of their Kickstarter campaign, instead of only $10, for each scarf sold $20 will be donated directly to them!

Hope to see you there!

Solo Show: Powell's City of Books

I'm absolutely elated to share my recent works at Powell's--what an honor!

Located upstairs in the Pearl Room, the Basil Hallward Gallery at the downtown Powell's has been a personal oasis since I moved to Portland 7 years ago.  Adjacent to the rare book room and in the realm of their collection of art books, I am beyond thrilled to share my work here.  Also, typewriter drawings in a bookstore? Yes!

Detail of the collaborative piece made for The Lab PDX at Holocene at the end of July. This piece debuts at this show!

Please mark your calendars for First Thursday, September 1 from 6:30-9pm and join us to celebrate Typewriter Art & Other Obsessive Methods, a collection of my latest works from typewriter drawings to my most recent large scale works using a variety of media.
Featured in this exhibit: Duo, 2016, CMYK sharpie on paper, 30 x 30 inches

Hope to see you there!

Gearing Up For International Typewriter Day!

Detail of my fun collabo with Oblation!

Did you know that June 23rd is officially International Typewriter Day? I didn't either until Oblation Papers & Press found me!

Thanks to my show back in February at Darling Press, I was able to connect with Oblation and they've invited me to be a big part of this special celebration.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 25th!

We're still hammering out some of the details, but here's a short list of the fun to be had:

* live typewriter-drawing by yours truly
* limited edition prints for sale
* letter-typing station with Oblation's own handcrafted paper, envelopes and stamps provided
* raffle to win a typewriter

I'll share the flier ASAP!

Please email your mailing address if you'd like one sent to you: redlumlehcar at gmail.com

I'm really looking forward to this! Hope to see you then!

Who Were You, Who You Were - Gratitude!

Though it was a short trip, I had a great time in Wisconsin and was so grateful to have spent time with a handful of wonderful people I love and adore.

Café Lulu is always my first stop in MKE, and as always, I'm so delighted to see my extended/chosen Lulu family. Again, I'm so thrilled to show my work in a space that means so much to me and is filled to the brim with people I care about.  Thank you for still making perfect rhubarb pie, and special thanks to the bartenders for maintaining my bloody mary intake and helping us with the install.

Check out Ash's fabulous learning kits for the young'uns: Little Goat Learning

I'm extremely grateful to my dear pal Ash who helped me install (twice...we hung it too low the first time) and for my dad who helped on the second install.  What on Earth would I have done without you both? Another special thanks to Anna & Bill (and Theo) and Jessica for being great and wonderful sleepover hosts.

A special message to Rina, Waldek, Leslie and Lynn: I can't express enough how grateful I am for your attending my opening reception.  You have had a powerful influence on what I do today, as you introduced me to printmaking itself through intaglio, drawing, book arts, color theory, and lithography. Thank you for still being a part of my life and for your kind words and advice.  I'm glad to know you.

I'm just astonished by all of the incredible people in my life who continue to support me and therefore my art. I'm forever in your debt and I love you.

The three achromats in this show, made using permanent marker and a slow build of hand-drawing triangles, the center one accompanied by rubbing alcohol.

If you were unable to make it to the reception, the show runs through mid-July, 2016.  Please see Café Lulu's site for hours, menu, and more information.  If you are interested in purchasing any of these pieces, please contact me directly: redlumlehcar at gmail dot com

Until next time, Milwaukee!

Justin's Wife & Son

The final result of my latest commission--a valentine for my printer's wife.

Mother & Son, 2016
typewritten ink on paper
8.25 x 10.25 inches
commission
This was such a sweet image to work from.  It was fun to obsess over the slowly undulating values in the face, the soft subtle smile on Justin's wife and his son's super cute hidden but obvious smile!

I'm looking forward to a slew of commissions that came about from my opening reception at Darling Press. Which, by the way, is still on view through the end of this month--swing by weekdays 10am-6pm and on Saturdays 11am-5pm. Stay tuned for upcoming commissions!

Feeling Ultra Femme: Darling Press Opening Next Friday!

Hey Portland!

I'm so excited that I was finally able to get up to St. John's and snag the pink and green ribbons I've been raving about at Ace Typewriter.  Check out this delightfully femme carnation pink.  I want to make everything in bubblegum.

Outline, in-progress.  See it on view alongside typewriter drawings I've been creating since 2013 at Darling Press!

This is also a reminder that I have the honor of being the Artist Of The Month at Darling Press, an intimate space operated by kind and hardworking letterpress wizards, Robyn, Alia and Jason.  They are great.  Not only do they create amazing things, they curate a stunning selection of other finely crafted art and goods and host an awesome life-drawing session every Tuesday from 7pm-9pm.
Should you ever be in FoPo, go say hi.  They also have a disturbingly adorable dog named CousCous that camouflages with the floor and does three perfect tricks.

The opening reception is EXACTLY one week away--please feel free to RSVP on the Facebook Page.  The details once again:

Hope to see you there!
